What is it?

Usually a piece of malicous software that is designed to cause harm, exploit, or compromise the integrity of and not limited to; computers, networks, data for a wide range of criminal activity such as, disrupting operations, gaining unauthorised access to systems, stealing confidential and sensitive information.

Prevention

  2. Check emails before clicking on links or opening attachments from unknown senders or pretending to be from a genuine sender or company
  3. Practice Safe Browsing
  4. Enable Firewalls on your devices and systems
  5. Regular backups

In the event of infection

  • Isolate the device by disconnecting it from your network and the internet
  • Run a full Antivirus scan to identify the file to contain and remove threats
  • If the malware has compromised your files, restore them from a clean backup.
